I mentioned this book more than 20 times in the previous weeks because for me is exactly that - An antidote to Chaos. Jordan Peterson's popularity is growing faster than a new hairstyle trend. In the past two years, we could see him kicking the ass of a cocky journalist, giving his lectures at the University of Toronto and answering a profound question in Quora. Peterson is the new face of the philosopher-intellectual, sometimes even a bit of an egghead.
University professor and a psychologist, with passionate opinion and precise arguments his youtube videos, have more than 16 million views. Peterson is a modern day living legend.
The book itself is a natural extension of his thoughts and ideas. Personally, 12 Rules for Life pulled me out of the anxiety hall. The mix of scientific arguments and legends made me think about the meaning of life a bit differently. The rules are simple and easy to follow. But what I found most interesting is how he wrote it as an ironic wink to all the sugary self-motivational books.
We live in a modern century, with more rights than anyone ever had but yet the anxiety and depression are a national epidemics in the most developed countries. Suicide rates are highest as ever and more people live in loneliness. In 12 Rules for Life, you can see a modern perspective on psychology and mental illnesses as well as an Antidote to Chaos.
In conclusion, I can say that for the moment that is my favorite book. I have a strong personal relationship with it and I keep reading it day after day. My psychiatric told me that it's a book that you can read for life and for me that certainly is true.
